How To Choose A Web Development Agency In The UAE: 10 Questions To Ask Before You Sign
Dubai and Abu Dhabi are full of agencies with beautiful portfolios. These ten questions separate the ones that will deliver from the ones that will disappear after the deposit.

Picking a web development agency in the UAE is harder than it looks. Every agency has a polished portfolio, a confident sales call and a proposal that promises the world. The differences show up three months later, when the site is late, the code belongs to someone else and the "SEO included" turned out to mean a meta description. Here are the ten questions we would ask if we were hiring.
1. Who will actually do the work?
Many agencies sell locally and subcontract offshore without telling you. That is not necessarily bad, but you should know who is writing your code, how you reach them, and what happens if they leave mid-project. Ask to meet the developer, not just the account manager.
2. Will I own the code, the domain and the hosting?
You should own all three, from day one, in accounts registered to your business. Walk away from any agency that keeps the domain in its name or builds on a proprietary platform you cannot take elsewhere. This single question prevents the most painful problems we see.
3. What is it built on, and why?
WordPress, Shopify, Next.js and Webflow are all legitimate choices for different jobs. A good agency explains why it recommends one for your situation. A weak one recommends whatever it always uses. If the answer is "our own custom CMS", ask who else can maintain it.
4. Can I see a site you launched 18 months ago, and is it still fast?
Portfolios show launch day. What matters is how sites age. Open one of their older sites on your phone on mobile data. If it takes five seconds to load, that is your future.
5. How do you handle Arabic and right-to-left layouts?
If you serve the local market, you will probably need Arabic at some point. Building a right-to-left layout properly is real work. Ask whether it is planned from the start or bolted on later.
6. What exactly does "SEO included" mean?
Get it in writing. Technical basics such as clean URLs, metadata, sitemaps, structured data and Core Web Vitals should be included in any professional build. Ongoing content and link work is a separate service. Beware of anyone who guarantees rankings.
7. What happens after launch?
Sites need updates, backups, security patches and occasional fixes. Ask what the support arrangement is, what it costs, and how quickly they respond. "Email us if something breaks" is not a plan.
8. How do you handle payments and VAT?
A registered UAE business will invoice with a TRN and charge 5% VAT. Agencies abroad will not. Neither is wrong, but you should know which you are dealing with and what your finance team needs.
9. Can you show me the process, not just the result?
Ask for a project timeline with milestones, what you must provide and when, and how changes are handled. Most delays come from unclear content deadlines, not slow developers.
10. What will this cost over three years, not just at launch?
Add up hosting, licences, support, and the plugins or apps the site depends on. A cheap build on an expensive platform often costs more than a well-built site with a higher upfront price.
A note on price
You will get quotes that differ by a factor of ten for the "same" website. That usually reflects who is doing the work, how much is custom versus template, and what is included after launch. Compare scope, not totals. We publish our starting prices so you can compare like for like, and our UAE page covers how we work with clients in the Emirates.
